When I was in elementary school, I made a sweeping declaration that I would never watch a movie before reading the book. Looking back, this was a lofty goal, and it was fairly naïve because of the sheer number of movies that are based on books. As an adult, I’ve loosened these restrictions, and now I only read the books I’m interested in before watching the screen adaption. That being said, recently there have been a lot of books on my TBR that have been turned into movies and TV shows and here are six books that I need to read soon so I can watch their screen adaptions. 

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

This movie came out a few months ago, and even though my boyfriend asked at least a dozen times if we could see it, I still haven’t gotten around to reading the book yet. Hopefully, I’ll get around to reading it soon because it looks incredible and I know my boyfriend will start bugging me again when he sees the movie on store shelves.

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

I just watched the trailer for this movie, and it looks terrific! I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf for about a year now, and I think it’s time for me to finally read it so I can watch it in theatres next month.

To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han

I had heard a lot of great things about this book, but it wasn’t until I saw the trailer that I decided to add this book to my TBR. This book is up next on my TBR, so hopefully, I’ll be ready to curl up with wine, kitties, and snacks when it’s released on Netflix in August.   

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

I don’t know why I haven’t finished reading American Gods yet. I started reading it last year in anticipation of the show’s release, but then I hit a reading slump, and I haven’t touched it since. I want to finish this book before the end of the year so that I can binge the show in the winter!

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

I’ve had this book sitting on my shelf since the TV show won all the awards earlier this year. Fortunately, season two isn’t being released until next year, so I have time to read the book and catch up on the first season.
