I hope everyone had a good weekend and that their week is off to a good start. I had the day off today, which means that I was able to get in some much-needed reading time.
I had a difficult time thinking of books to use for this week’s ABC book challenge, it appears that my library and TBR are lacking titles that start with the letter B. Fortunately I did manage to find some, so let’s do this!
Memorable Books that Start with “B”
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak: This book is amazing, and I highly recommend it. If you’ve read it before, you know that it’s beautiful and heartbreaking and that you should have a box of tissues nearby because crying is a common side-effect of reading it. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s a work of historical fiction that takes place during World War Two, and it’s phenomenal, and I can’t recommend it enough.
The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket: I included this book on the list because it’s the book that got me into reading. When I was in grade six, my teacher recommended it to me, and it got me hooked on reading. Even though I’m disappointed and disgusted by the actions of the author, I can’t ignore or forget about this series, because it helped shape me into the person that I am today.
The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis: This is one of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors. The Best Laid Plans is very Canadian and its perfect read for someone who enjoys political humour. The characters are memorable, and with everything going on in the world today, I often find myself wondering what Angus would think of it all.
Beartown by Fredrik Backman: I read Beartown at the beginning of 2018, and I loved it. This book is very different from Backman’s other work, but it’s an amazing and relevant and important book. Some people might think that this book is about hockey, but it’s about so much more than that, and I hope that people pick it up and give it a chance, because it deals with a lot of important issues.
