Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.
I missed last week’s Top Ten Tuesday, and since this week is a freebie, I decided to post last week’s topic tonight! Most of the books on this list are Christmasy books, but I did throw in a few books that I find wintry.
1 and 2) Beartown and Us Against You by Fredrick Backman: I included these book on this list because it takes place in a small Nordic hockey town and winter and hockey go together like peanut butter and jelly. I haven’t read Us Against You yet, but I loved Beartown and I’m looking forward to reading Us Against You on a snowy day this winter.
3) My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins: I haven’t read this book yet, but it sounds like the perfect winter read. It’s a collection of festive and wintry love stories by some amazing YA authors and I’m looking forward to reading it soon.
4) The Inspector Gamache books by Louise Penny: I included this series on the list because it’s a cozy mystery series and cozy mysteries are my favourite kind of book to read in the winter. I also included this series on this list because a lot of the books take place in winter, which makes them even more perfect for the winter months.
5) Almost Midnight by Rainbow Rowell: This is another book that I haven’t read yet, but it looks like a cute and festive read. I’m fairly certain that one of the stories in this book is also featured in My True Love Gave to Me, but I’m still looking forward to reading it because I always enjoy Rainbow Rowell’s stories.
6, 7, and 8) A Boy Called Christmas, The Girl Who Saved Christmas, and Father Christmas and Me by Matt Haig: I picked up this trilogy on sale at Walmart at it looks like the perfect series to read at Christmas. On the cover of one of the books, it says that this series is a mix of Lemony Snicket and Roald Dahl, and I remember loving both of these authors when I was a kid.
9) You Better Not Cry by Augusten Burroughs: I included this book on this list even though I don’t remember a thing about it. Augusten Burroughs is one of my favourite authors, but I read most of his work when I was in high school. I think that I might reread this short collection of essays sometime before Christmas to get me into the holiday spirit.
10) Santaland Diaries by David Sedaris: Last but certainly not least on my list is SantaLand Diaries by David Sedaris. I read this book sometime in University, and every so often I like to listen to David Sedaris read his stories. Last Christmas I made my boyfriend listen to one of the stories in this book, and I was thoroughly amused by it. I think that this year I’ll make him listen to another one and hopefully, it will be just as enjoyable as last year.
What do you think of the books on this list? Have you read any of them? Do you have any favourite wintry reads?
I’m reading Beartown right now! It’s a great winter read. I also really like My True Love Gave to Me.
