T5W: 2019 Reading Resolutions

Top Five Wednesday was created by Lainey. Every Wednesday there’s a new topic, and you get to list your top 5 books that apply to that topic. For more information, or to join in on the fun, check out the Goodread’s Group.

Hello everyone!

I hope everyone is having a good day so far and that the first day of 2019 went well!

Today’s Top Five Wednesday theme is 2019 reading resolutions. I started drafting this post before the topic was announced, so only three of my resolutions are reading resolutions and the other two are general bookish resolutions.

1) Read 36 books: I know that this doesn’t sound like much, but I wanted to set a goal I could achieve this year. The past few years I’ve set a goal of reading 50 books, and I’ve fallen incredibly short every time. This year, I decided to be more realistic and set myself the goal of reading three books a month. I’m hoping that by setting this smaller goal, I’ll be able to prevent myself from getting discouraged and that I’ll make actual progress on my TBR.

2) Read every day: This might not seem like much of a goal, but I want to make sure I read every day. I think that if I get into the habit of reading at least one chapter every day, I’ll be a lot happier and I’ll be able to achieve my first goal.

3) Write more reviews on my blog and on Goodreads: I like writing reviews, because I love talking about books, but I feel like I’m terrible writing them. I’ve decided that in 2019 I’m going to get over my fear and post as many reviews as I can. This goal might be difficult because I’m a procrastinator (90% of the papers I wrote in University were written less than 48 hours before they were due), but I’m going to try!

4) Focus on reading the books on my shelves: I purchased a lot of books in 2018 and read very few of them. This year, my goal is to read the books I already have. I’m not going to go on a book buying ban, because I don’t want to make myself miserable and it’s too unrealistic, but I’m going to try to be more aware of what books I purchase and focus on the books I have.

5) Interact more with the bookish community: I’ve been a member of the online bookish community for two years now. It started with a Bookstagram account, and I’ve recently expanded to Twitter and posting on my blog more. I love being a part of this community, and I want to get to know as many people as I can. I want to interact with people and make new friends because I feel like the bookish community is one of the nicest and most supportive communities out there.
