This week’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is top 10 all time favourite books! This was one of the most difficult lists I’ve ever written because how is anyone supposed to pick their top 10 favourite books? There are so many amazing books out there, and being forced to pick ten is almost cruel and unusual punishment. This list is in no particular order, and to all of the amazing books that I left off of this list, I am sincerely sorry.

Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling: I can’t pick a single Harry Potter book to be my favourite because they’re all amazing, but I do want to include the series as a whole on this list. The reason why I love Harry Potter is that it introduced me to a world of magic and characters that I could look up to and admire. The books remind me of a simpler time, and for me, Hogwarts will always feel like home.

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline de L’Engle: I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve read this book over the years, but every time I read it, I love it. I love the characters, and I especially love how Meg learns to embrace her flaws and how she starts viewing them as assets.

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams: It shouldn’t surprise anyone that I included this book on my list of favourites because the name of my blog is a reference to this book. The reason why I love this book so much is because it’s funny, satirical, and clever. I also love that as I get older, I’m able to relate to Arthur Dent more and more, especially to his desire for a decent cup of tea.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky: This was my favourite book in high school, and it’s a book that I’ve turned to a lot during difficult times in my life. It’s been a few years since I last read it, but I like knowing that it’s sitting on my shelf, waiting for me in case I need to revisit Charlie.

The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis: The Best Laid Plans is a brilliantly funny book about politics. I’ve probably read the creatively written scene where Daniel describes why he left politics and his girlfriend fifty times, and I laugh out loud every time. I also love Angus McLintock, and I wish for the day that this book becomes required reading for everyone wanting to run for political office in Canada.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell: I read this book in University, and it will always hold a special place in my heart because Cath is such a relatable character. Packing up and leaving my family and friends to get an education was difficult in the first year. I was awkward; I missed home; I was away from everything familiar. Reading about Cath made me realize that this was a normal experience and that ultimately, things would be okay. It also helps that Levi is amazing and he is one of the ultimate book boyfriends.

Geekerella by Ashley Poston: Geekerella and The Princess and the Fangirl are odes to being in a fandom, and I love them. The characters are amazing, and they make me proud to be part of the fandoms that I’m in. I love these two books so much, that I actually went out and bought a dress today because it reminded me of these books.

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro: This book got me out of one of the worst reading slumps that I’ve ever experienced, and I will always be grateful for it. It reminded me how much I love cozy mysteries, and Charlotte and Jamie go on some pretty amazing adventures in this series.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne: This is the book that got me hooked on reading romantic comedies, and it is one of the best things that has ever happened to my reading life. I love the relationship between Lucy and Josh; I love how stubborn she is and how caring he is.  I don’t know how I lived before this book came into my life, but I’m certain that my life is far better now that I’ve read this book.

Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston: This is my current favourite book, and I cannot stop talking about it. It’s the perfect mix of some of my favourite things (romantic comedies, The West Wing, and Hamilton references) and it is amazing. Alex and Henry are my favourite fictional couple and one day I will own a shirt that says “History, huh?” so I can proclaim my love for this book even more.
