This weeks prompt is books I don’t talk about enough, which is a topic that I’m super excited to write about. There are a handful of books, mostly books that I read while I was in University, that I absolutely adored, but I rarely talk about. These are all books that I don’t see very often on Book Blogs or Bookstagram, and they might not be as well known. They’re also books that I read a while ago, so my memory is a little bit fuzzy on some of the details of each book.

Poles Apart by Terry Fallis: I talk about Terry Fallis quite a bit on here, but I don’t mention this book very often. Poles Apart is about Everett, the owner of a feminist blog that becomes an overnight sensation. It’s a book about meeting your heroes, family, and the struggle for equality. This book is funny, feminist, and full of wonderful characters and I highly recommend it.

We’re All In This Together by Amy Jones: We’re All In This Together follows the dysfunctional Parker family, who is struggling to hold it all together after a video of their grandmother going over a waterfall in a barrel goe viral. This book has a lot of humourous moments, but it also deals with some big topics like dementia. This book is full of characters who are dealing with real struggles and that I was able to root for because they felt like real people.

This is Where I Leave You by Jonathan Tropper: While procrastinating at University, I stumbled upon a list of “books you should read before the movie is released” and this book was on it. I thought it sounded interesting, but I didn’t think much more about it. A few weeks later, I decided to go to the used bookstore, and sure enough, this book was sitting on the shelf. I bought it, brought it home with me, started reading, and fell in love. This book is also about a dysfunctional family who comes together after a tragedy, and it’s hilarious. Even if you’ve seen the movie, I recommend reading the book, because there are some moments in this book that I still laugh about to this day. 

A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby: This is another book that was on the list of “books you should read before the movie is released” that I stumbled upon during a used bookstore adventure. This book is about four people who meet on New Year’s Eve, the night that they were thinking of ending their lives, and by the end of the night, they’ve formed some sort of friendship or alliance. This book deals with a heavy topic, but it has its funny moments. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, so I don’t remember the finer details, but I remember enjoying it.

The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick: I don’t remember what led me to pick up this book, but I’m glad I did. This book is about Bartholomew and his struggle to break free after his mother passes away. It’s full of quirky characters, a road trip, cat Parliament, and letters to Richard Gere. It’s a fun and heartwarming read by the same author who wrote The Silver Linings Playbook.
