This week’s prompt is Top 5 Covers of 2019, which is such a difficult topic to write about. There have been dozens of gorgeous releases this year, and there are so many books that I picked up just because I fell in love with the cover. I stuck with books that have already been released because if I included upcoming releases, I’d never narrow it down to five.
The Field Guide to the North American Teenager by Ben Philippe: Earlier this year, when I was researching 2019 releases, I saw this cover and fell in love. The notebook on the front seems super unique to me, and it makes this book stand out in my mind. I also adore all of the little sketches, and I especially love the moose.
Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim: In my opinion, the colours on this cover are absolute perfection, and they match so well. I think the steam coming off of the bowl of food is brilliant because it highlights the food, which is an important element in this book, but it also reminds me of a genie coming out of a lamp, which matches the luck and fortune part of the book.
The Albatross by Terry Fallis: This is my current read, and the cover is brilliant, and it’s full of so much symbolism. After reading the description of the book, the cover hits home the idea that the main character is trapped and it makes you wonder if they’ll ever break free.
Hot Dog Girl by Jennifer Dugan: This is another cover that I stumbled upon and fell instantly in love with. I don’t know what it is, but I love the hot dog suit. I also love the pinks and purple in the cover and the carnival scene in the shadowy background.
The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren: This is the only book on the list that I haven’t read yet, but I’m hoping to read it later this month. Every time I look at this cover, I think about a tropical vacation. I like how bright it is, and the toucan adds a special touch that I adore.
What are some covers that you fell in love with in 2019? Let me know in the comments!
