This week’s Top 5 Tuesday theme is Autumn Reads! When I think of autumn reading, I think about cozy mysteries, long book series, and spooky series. Below are some books that fall into these categories, and I think they are perfect for autumn reading.
Still Life by Louise Penny:Still Life is the first book in the Inspector Gamache series, which is a wonderful mystery series. This series takes place in Three Pines, which is a small town in Northern Quebec. This small-town setting makes everything feel cozier, and the backdrop of Canadian Thanksgiving (mid-October) makes this the perfect series to start this autumn.
Coraline by Neil Gaiman: I’m not a big fan of spooky things, but I am a fan of Neil Gaiman. Coraline is full of spooky things, including the terrifying other mother and her button eyes. If you’re looking for something quick to read for Halloween, add this to your list.
A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas:I’m usually not a huge fantasy fan, but there’s something about autumn that makes me want to give this genre a try. A Court of Thorns and Roses feels like it’s a good series to dive into because it’s a trilogy and because Lucien is from the Autumn Court.
Fables by Bill Willingham: There’s something about fairy tales that make me think about autumn, and Fables follows a bunch of fairy tale character who have been exiled to the real world. This series has a lot of books (twenty-two) I think, and a few spinoff series, so if you’re looking for something to occupy you for the entire season, this might be a good series to check out.
The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis:One of the other things that I think about when I think about autumn is elections. The Best Laid Plans takes place during election season, and it is laugh-out-loud funny. If you’re looking for something to make the election season feel a little less terrible, this is a book worth checking out.
