The High School Musical Book Tag

HSM Tag Banner

Hello everyone!

Today is Thursday, which means its tag day! I saw this tag on The Journeying Bibliophile, and I immediately thought that this was the tag I didn’t know I needed in my life. I wasn’t a huge High School Musical fan, but I still knew the songs, and appreciate the throwback feel of this tag. It looks like this tag was created back in 2014 by Aprilius Maximus so this really is a throwback.

The Start of Something New: A New Favorite Genre/Series/Author

Romance StackThis isn’t really that new, but over the past year, I’ve gotten really into romance. A few years ago, I didn’t go down the romance aisle at the bookstore, but now that’s where I go first. I especially love romantic comedies, and some of my favourite books from the past year have fallen into this category.

What I’ve Been Looking For: A Book That’s Everything You’ve Always Wanted

Red, White and Royal Blue

Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston is the book that was everything I could have ever wanted. It was romantic, funny, it had moments that reminded me of The West Wing (aka the best show ever), and just enough Hamilton references to keep me happy.

Fabulous: The Book with The Biggest Diva

Crazy Rich Asians

It took me forever to think of a character for this question, but I finally settled on Eddie from Crazy Rich Asians. He’s a drama-queen, obsessed with how he and his family are perceived, and he needs to be the centre of attention.

Boys Are Back: The Greatest Bromance

Good Omen

Crowley and Aziraphale from Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett will always be one of my favourite bromances. They’ve known each other for 6000 years or so, and it’s clear that they love each other and that they’re best friends.

What Time Is It: The Best Summer Read

Love and Gelato

Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch is one of my favourite summer reads. It takes place in the summer, gelato is the perfect summer treat, and the romance is sweet.

Everyday: A Book Cover You Could Stare at Everyday

Natalie Tan

I absolutely adore the cover of Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim. I love the little illustrations and the steam that creates a border around the title. It has so many little details, and I could stare at it all day.

Scream: A Character That Frustrated You

What I Like About You

I found myself getting quite annoyed with Halle from What I Like About You by Marisa Kanter. It would have been so easy for her just to be honest, but instead, she kept creating a web of lies that was bound to end in disaster.

Just Wanna Be with You: A Book You Couldn’t Put Down

The most recent book that I couldn’t put down was The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly by Jamie Pacton. This book is full of diverse characters, amazing friendships, and sword fighting, which made it incredibly enjoyable to read.

Humuhumunukunukuapua’a: The Most Ridiculous Book/Scene You’ve Ever Read

Alice in Wonderland

Please don’t hate me for this, but I think Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll is one of the most ridiculous books I’ve ever read. It’s full of so many random things, and my notes on it were “don’t do drugs.”

High School Musical: Your Favorite Bookish School

Truly Devious

Right now, my favourite bookish school is Ellingham Academy from Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson. I love the idea of an elite boarding school in the Vermont mountains, and the place seems incredible. The only downside is the streak of bad things that happen while Stevie is there.

Spring Musical Medley: The Book with The Happiest Ending

Meet Cute

I love happy endings, and the most recent happy ending that stands out to me is Meet Cute by Helena Hunting. I thought the surprise party at the end was every fangirl’s dream, and it left me with a huge smile on my face.
