Witches: A Book or Character that is Magical
I think that the most magical book I’ve read this year is The Ship of Shadows by Maria Kuzniar. This book is full of magic, and reading it brought me back to my childhood and reading books like Inkheart for the first time.
Mummies: A Book or Character You Can’t Wrap Your Mind Around
I had a difficult time wrapping my head around Halle from What I Like About You by Marisa Kanter. I enjoyed the book, but I spent a lot of time questioning a lot of Halle’s decisions.
Vampires: A Book, Series, or Author You Can’t Live Without
I cannot live without The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. This book brought me so much joy when I read it for the first time, and it introduced me to the romance genre, which I am now hooked on.
Werewolves: A Book Best Reading at the Middle of the Night
I don’t know how to answer this question because I rarely read in the middle of the night. If I decided to pick up a book in the middle of the night, I might read for a Hercule Poirot book by Agatha Christie.
Zombies: A Book You Picked Up for the 2nd Time or Continued after DNFing it
I can’t think of any books that I continued after DNFing it, but one book that I do reread fairly regularly is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.
Ghosts: A Character You Saw Right Through or a Book You Easily Predicted a Twist or the Ending
I recently read Risky Whiskey by Lucy Lakestone, and I was able to figure out who the bad guy was pretty quickly. The book was fun to read, though, and I should have my review posted on Saturday!
Frankenstein: A Book that Truly Shocked You
I can’t think of a book that “truly shocked” me, but I was shocked by some of the twists and turns in May Day by Josie Jaffrey.
Skeletons: A Book or Character that Chilled You to the Bone or got your Funny Bone
I can’t think of any chilling books that I’ve read, but one of my favourite humorous books is The Best Laid Plans by Terry Fallis.
Ghouls: A Book that Left You Hungry or a Recipe You Want to Try from a Book
Every time I think about Natalie Tan’s Book of Luck and Fortune by Roselle Lim, I get hungry. The food descriptions in this book are phenomenal, and it made me want to order all of the food.
Goblins: A Greedy Character or a Character that Loves Gold and Jewelry
I’m struggling to think of a specific greedy character, but I know that a lot of the children in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl are quite greedy.
Devil: A Dark, Evil Character
One of the evilest characters I can think of is Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket. The amount of terrible stunts he pulled and people he killed on his quest to get his hands on the Baudelaire fortune is truly appalling.
Grim Reaper: A Character You Loved or Hated that Died
This is a tough question because usually a character dying is a spoiler, and I try to avoid spoiling things. One death that I was sad about was the expected death in Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan. Even though it was very clear that the character was going to pass away in the book, I had grown quite fond of them over the series, and I was sad to see them go.
Scarecrows: A Book or Character that Scares You
I don’t read a lot of scary books, but one book that scares me is Coraline by Neil Gaiman. I find the button eyes and the Other Mother to be super creepy, and I’m glad that I was an adult when I read this book because I think it would have given me nightmares as a kid.
