5 on my TBR is a weekly meme that’s hosted by Local Bee Hunter’s Nook. Each Monday, there’s a different prompt, and the goal is to list five books on your TBR that fit into the prompt.
This week’s prompt is Enemies-to-Lovers, which is one of my favourite tropes! If I’m honest, I struggled with the prompt because when I find out a book has enemies-to-lovers, it doesn’t sit unread on my TBR for that long. I had to do some digging and research to figure out what books to include, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what books other people picked so that I can add them to my never-ending TBR.
Passion on Park Avenue by Lauren Layne – I didn’t realize that this book featured enemies-to-lovers until I went hunting for this trope on my shelves. This book features a pair of childhood enemies who find themselves reunited as adults and caught in a battle of wills. The back of the book promises plenty of snark, which I hope is accurate because I love snarky comments. This book is also the first book in a trilogy, so it’s only a matter of time until the other two books end up on my shelf.
Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin – I don’t know anything about this book other than its fantasy and it features enemies-to-lovers. I’ve heard mixed things about this book, which makes me nervous because I have a rocky relationship with fantasy. I’m hoping that I’ll be able to find a weekend where I can just read and knock this off of my TBR, so it doesn’t sit on it forever. I’m also hoping that the enemies-to-lovers in this book is as good as people say it is because that will make me want to keep reading, despite my rocky relationship with fantasy.
Conventionally Yours by Annabeth Albert – This book features enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, and a convention, which sounds amazing. This book is about two fans who hate each other but end up on a cross-country road trip to a gaming convention together. I love reading books that take place at conventions because even though I would hate going to one (I don’t handle crowds well), the concept sounds magical. I don’t know much about gaming, but I’m hoping that this book will have enough going on that I won’t feel lost or overwhelmed by any specific gaming references.
A Love Hate Thing by Whitney D. Grandison – This is one of the many books that I purchased during the lockdown, that I haven’t gotten to yet. I don’t remember what it’s about, but the title implies enemies-to-lovers. According to Goodreads, this book features a troubled teen boy who is taken in by the family of a golden girl, and it mentions the thin line between hate and love. This book looks like a quick read, and I hope that it doesn’t disappoint.
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen – Last, but not least, is a book that I really should have read by now. Pride and Prejudice is probably the most well-known enemies-to-lovers story, but I haven’t read it (or watched the movie) yet! I know the general story of Pride and Prejudice, but I need to take the time to acquaint myself with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet properly.
