January TBR

Hello Everyone, and Happy New Year!

2020 wasn’t what I expected, but all things considered, it was a decent year. I finished paying off my student loan in January, which made things a little less scary when I lost my job in March. My temporary layoff turned into a permanent layoff, which ended up being a blessing in disguise because I didn’t realize how miserable, anxious, and depressed my old job was making me. I started a new job at the end of July, and I am so much happier. I also read a lot of fantastic books in 2020 and became friends with some wonderful people in this community. Finally, I became an Aunt in 2020, and I’m looking forward to turning Abigail into a bookworm.

Anyway, enough reflection on 2020 for now; it’s time to talk about what I want to read this month! My January TBR is fairly ambitious, but I’m optimistic! Two of the books on my TBR are buddy reads (they also happen to be rereads), another two are ARCs that I should have read in the fall, and the others are books that I’ve wanted to read for a while but haven’t yet.

The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie: This is a reread, and a buddy read for me. I’m reading this with some of my favourite bloggers during the first half of January, and I can’t wait for our discussions. Hercule Poirot is one of my favourite fictional characters, and I’m looking forward to rereading this one.

Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie: This is the other reread and buddy read on my TBR this month. We’re reading this during the second half of January, and once again, I am excited about our discussions. I’ve read this book a few times, and I know the story fairly well, but it’s still one of my favourite Christie mysteries.

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas: I’ve been meaning to read The Hate U Give for such a long time, and I am determined to read it this month. I have heard so many good things about this book and Angie Thomas in general, and I’m looking forward to finally reading it.

When We Were Young and Brave by Hazel Gaynor: I received an ARC of this book from Harper Collins in the fall, but I wasn’t really in the mood for Historical Fiction at the time, and I didn’t end up reading it before it was released. I’m planning on reading it this month, and I’m looking forward to reading a book set in China during World War Two.

Solutions and Other Problems by Allie Brosh: This was one of my most anticipated books of 2020, but for some reason, I haven’t read it yet. Hyperbole and a Half is one of my favourite graphic novels, and when Allie Brosh was still posting on her blog, I would follow it religiously. Like many, when she seemed to disappear, I was very worried about her, so when I saw that she had a new book out, I was both relieved and thrilled. I’m planning on making this my first read of 2021, which should kick the year off right.

Cobble Hill by Cecily von Ziegesar: This is another ARC that I was supposed to read in the fall, but I didn’t get to. This book involves neighbourhood drama, and it sounds like it’s the kind of story that I will love.

Well Met by Jen DeLuca: I have heard so many amazing things about this romance book, and it’s about time that I finally dove into it. I’ve heard that the plot and the characters are a lot of fun, and in general, I love romance books with illustrated covers.
