#SixforSunday is hosted by A Little But A Lot, and each week, there’s a different prompt, and you list six books that fit the prompt. The theme for February is Read it and Weep!
This week’s prompt is books with red covers, which made me realize that I have far less red on my shelves than I thought. This was a fun post to write because finding books to talk about was a bit of a scavenger hunt, especially because some books have a spine that is a different colour than the cover.
The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett – This novella is a cute and funny story about the Queen of England after her corgis lead her to a mobile library and she falls in love with books and reading. I read this book four years ago, so the specific details are hazy, but I remember loving it because it’s an ode to how amazing reading is.
The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory – This book is the first book in Jasmine Guillory’s universe, and it is fantastic. This book features getting stuck in an elevator with a stranger, fake dating that turns real, and lots of mindless fluff. If you’re looking for a plot-heavy book, you’ll likely be disappointed by this book. However, if you’re looking for a quick, sexy, funny, and mindless book, this is worth picking up. Personally, I love Jasmine Guillory’s characters, and I thought this book was a lot of fun, even if it lacked in the plot department.
The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren – I read this book in early 2020, and I remember it being a fun read. This book follows Carey and James as they are forced to take a road trip with America’s favourite reality TV couple and given the impossible task of making sure that America doesn’t find out that their favourite couple hates each other. Even though this is my least favourite Christina Lauren book that I’ve read so far, it’s still a quick and fun read, and it’s a great book to spend an afternoon with.
The Vanishing Stair by Maureen Johnson – The Vanishing Stair is the second book in the Truly Devious trilogy. You’ll want to pick up this book as soon as you finish reading Truly Devious because the cliffhanger is brutal, and you’ll want to know what happens next. I think this book might be my least favourite in the trilogy, but I still think it’s fantastic, and I cannot recommend this series enough.
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke – This book is a major throwback for me, and I really want to reread it sometime soon. The last time I read Inkheart was when I was eleven years old, and I remember falling in love with how magical the story was. I don’t remember any of the details of the story, but I remember the main character loves books and that it was a magical adventure.
May Day by Josie Jaffrey – Last but not least is my most recent red covered read! May Day is a fantastic urban fantasy mystery novel full of vampire fun. This is one of those books where I didn’t know what to expect when I started it, but I ended up falling in love with it because it is amazing. This book is full of amazing characters, twists, turns, romance, and scandal. It’s the kind of book that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time, and I can’t recommend it enough.
