Hello Everyone!
Today is Thursday, making it the perfect day for a book tag! This week I’m doing the Winter Book Tag, which I found on theblindscribe! Right now, Southwestern Ontario is in the middle of a cold spell, so the timing of this tag could not be better!
Falling Snow: The colours of Winter are muted, choose a book that has whites, light blues and greys
The first book that came to mind for this question is City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab. Though black plays a big role on the cover for this one, white, light blue, and grey also play a prominent role.
Crackling Fire: colder weather makes for the perfect time to sit by a crackling fire, which book is best to curl up next to the fire with?
I think all books are good for curling up by the fire with, but if I have to pick a book, I’m going to go with the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. This magical mystery series, full of wonderful characters, seems like the perfect book to spend an evening with by a warm fire.
Ice Storm: winter storms can be brutal, what book do you love that takes the characters through a brutal season?
If I remember correctly, You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle partly takes place in the winter? This was one of my favourite books in 2020, and I think it involves snowballs and possibly falling into a cold pond?
Winter Wishes: spending more time indoors allows more time to dream and wish, which character is living a life that you dream about?
Avery Grant from The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes is living a life I wish I could live. I absolutely do not want to be a teenager again, and going back to high school makes me want to make pterodactyl noises into the abyss, but becoming ridiculously wealthy overnight would be wonderful. I wouldn’t even try to figure out any secrets or puzzles, I would just spend my time reading with a bunch of books and adopting cats, and it would be bliss.
Hot Cocoa: there is nothing like a hot cup of cocoa during winter, what book do you think should be the next big thing?
Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston is already gaining quite a bit of popularity, but I want it to become the next big thing. Maybe I should start a BookTok to start pushing this agenda.
Lip Balm and Lotion: soothing dry skin is part of winter for many, what book is full of soothing and comforting words?
I feel like The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune has the perfect amount of magic to make it soothing and comforting, almost like a warm hug on a cold winter day.
Peppermint Mocha: what is your winter go to food or drink?
I am a hot tea person all year round, so tea is my beverage of choice in the cold weather.
