Hello everyone!
Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Bionic Bookworm, and it’s now hosted by Meeghan Reads. If you’re interested in participating, check out their wonderful blog to get the details and the prompts for each week!
This week’s Top Five Tuesday topic is Books I Didn’t Get to in 2021. This is one of those topics that is almost impossible to write about because there are so many books that I wanted to read last year, but I didn’t get to. So to narrow this list down, I’m going to focus on YA titles that I really thought I would have read last year, but time slipped away from me.
The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson – The Truly Devious series is one of my favourite series, and The Box in the Woods was my most anticipated read of 2021. Despite my obsession with this series, I, unfortunately, did not get to it in 2021. I’m looking forward to reading this book sometime soon because Stevie Bell is one of my favourite fictional detectives, and I need to see what she and the rest of the gang get up to in this one. I’m also really hoping that David makes an appearance in this book because I have a soft spot for him.

Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales – I was looking forward to reading Perfect in Paper in 2021 because I enjoyed reading Only Mostly Devastated in 2020. I read the first few chapters of this one, and I enjoyed it, but then life got chaotic, and I didn’t end up finishing it. I really enjoy the premise of this book, and I think it sounds like a lot of fun. I also like Sophie Gonzales in general, so I’m sure I’ll love this book when I get to it this year.

Lost in the Never Woods by Aiden Thomas – Near the beginning of 2021, I read Cemetery Boys, and it made me want to order Lost in the Never Woods. I was also excited for this book because I’m generally a fan of Peter Pan, and the premise sounds interesting, even if it might be too far into the fantasy realm for my usual taste. Unfortunately, like the other books on this list, I just didn’t get to it before the year was done, and I’m hoping to get to it sometime soon in 2022.

Pride and Premeditation by Tirzah Price – I heard about this book at one of the HCC Frenzy preview events, and I immediately added it to my TBR because murder. I haven’t read Pride and Prejudice yet, but I like the idea of Jane Austen-inspired murder mysteries, and I was really looking forward to reading this one. I also love the embroidery style cover art on this book, and I think the cover is stunning.

Some Girls Do by Jennifer Dugan – I’ve read both Hot Dog Girl and Verona Comics, and even though they weren’t my favourite books, I enjoyed them enough that Jennifer Dugan is an author that I want to keep on reading. The main reason why I want to read this book is that I am in love with the cover. Both of the characters on the cover look super cool, and I love the sunset sky. I also like the premise of this book, and I already want to root for the main characters even though I haven’t met them yet.
