Hello everyone!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Bionic Bookworm, and it’s now hosted by Meeghan Reads. If you’re interested in participating, check out their wonderful blog to get the details and the prompts for each week!

In May, all of the Top 5 Tuesday topics are about reading environments. I’m looking forward to drafting my posts for this month and talking about all sorts of bookish things. This week’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is Snacks for Reading. I know that some people refuse to snack while reading, but I am not one of those people.

Gummy Candies – Up first on my list of my favourite reading snacks is gummy candies! What’s not to love about gummy candies? They come in fun shapes and sizes, lots of different flavours, and they’re very portable. I also like that they generally aren’t that messy, so I don’t have to worry too much about accidentally damaging the book I’m reading.

Baked Goods – I am a reasonable person, and I think that baked goods improve any situation, especially potentially stressful ones. Reading can be stressful, and sometimes the characters find themselves in bad situations, and reaching for a baked good can make these moments easier. My baked goods of choice are brownies or cookies, but I won’t say no to a muffin or a chocolate croissant. The only downside of reaching for this kind of snack is that the crumbs can potentially damage the book, so I have to be careful while snacking.

Dark Chocolate – Speaking of brownies, I also like reaching for dark chocolate while reading. It’s a good snack to reach for when books get stressful, but it’s usually less messy than baked goods, which makes it slightly safer for whatever I’m reading.

Cheese and Crackers – Sometimes, reading requires a snack that’s a bit more substantial, which is where cheese and crackers come in. I like cheese and crackers as a reading snack because there are so many options. I usually have at least two or three different types of cheese in the fridge, so I can choose something that pairs with the book I’m reading, or I can just pick whatever is tastiest.

Chips – Last on my list of reading snacks is chips. Chips are a great snack in general, but they’re great for reading because you can absent-mindedly grab at them without losing your place on the page. The downside to eating chips while reading is that they’re greasy, potentially damaging the book you’re reading. The solution to this problem is to either read an ebook while eating chips or have a page-turning strategy to avoid touching the pages with greasy fingers.
