Hello everyone!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Bionic Bookworm, and it’s now hosted by Meeghan Reads. If you’re interested in participating, check out their wonderful blog to get the details and the prompts for each week!

In May, all of the Top 5 Tuesday topics are about reading environments. This week’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is Top 5 Reading Accessories. This topic was deceptive. At first, I thought it would be easy, but it took me a bit to think of five items to include on the list.

Book Sleeves – Up first on my list of favourite reading accessories are book sleeves. I have a minor obsession with book sleeves because I find them incredibly useful. I either use an oversized purse or a backpack when I’m out, and I like bringing a book wherever I go. Book sleeves allow me to bring a book without worrying about it getting squished, bent, or damaged by the other things in my bag. I usually buy my book sleeves from Always September, but there are so many fantastic small businesses out there that make these.

Bookmarks – Another reading accessory that I have a minor obsession with are bookmarks. I used to always love buying bookmarks at the school book fair every year, and Bookstagram and Etsy brought my bookmark collection to a completely different level. Sometimes I like matching my bookmark to my book, but I also have a pile of general bookish ones that I use quite a bit.

Sticky Tabs – I don’t annotate my books, but I find sticky tabs incredibly useful for reading. Sometimes when I’m buddy reading a book, we break the book into sections, and sticky tabs help me keep track of each week’s section. They’re also good for keeping track of moments I want to remember when writing a review or discussing a book with people.

Reading Light – I purchased a little reading light on a whim a few months ago, and I love it. I usually read in my room, and the light situation in my room isn’t the greatest. I have a ceiling light, which is often too harsh for reading before bed. I also have a lamp on my table, but that isn’t always bright enough, depending on what position I’m reading in. The reading light lets me have enough light to see what I’m reading. I also like that it has three different brightness settings, so when I inevitably wake up at 3 am, I can read for a bit before falling back asleep.

Kindle – I don’t know if this counts as a reading accessory, but I love my Kindle. At first, I wasn’t too sure about eReaders, but now I am obsessed with them. I love that it allows me to read ARCs and books for blog tours. I also love all of the Kindle deals of the day. I also like that it lets me read at work because it’s so small, and I can easily tuck it underneath some papers if needed.

  1. Kindles definitely count!! I love this list. Also, everyone’s lists are making me realise that I use a lot more than what was on my top 5!! Maybe I’ll do 5 more for next week’s freebie?!
