The Bookish Blog Tag

Bookish Blog Tag

Hello Everyone!

It’s Thursday, which means it’s tag day! This week I’m doing The Bookish Blog Tag! I found this tag a while ago on Literary Weapony and today seems like a good day to finally do it. I can’t figure out who created this tag, so if you know, let me know so I can give them credit.

What are 1-3 of your favourite books of all time?

How am I supposed to pick just three favourite books of all time? My top 5 favourite books change on an almost daily basis depending on what kind of mood I’m in. If I have to pick three, I’ll go with:

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams – My brother lent me his copy of this book when I was in high school and it was clearly influential on my life. There’s just something about Douglas Adams’ sense of humour that makes this book extra special.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne – This is the book that got me into reading romance, which is a wonderful thing, even if my bank account says otherwise.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson – I just love everything about this book. I like mysteries in general, but the characters and the setting of this book make it extra special.

What are 1-3 of your favourite authors of all time?

This is another very difficult question! How am I supposed to stick to just three favourite authors of all time? If I have to choose, I’m going to pick:

Agatha Christie – Agatha Christie books are comfort reads for me. I’ve been working my way through all of the Poirot books and it’s nice knowing that everything is going to be resolved nicely. I will say though, a lot of the content and language in her books haven’t aged well, which can make for some uncomfortable reading moments.

Taylor Jenkins Reid – I’ve only read three of her books so far, but I’ve loved all of them. Taylor Jenkins Reid is an excellent storyteller and I love how she’s able to create characters that feel like real historical figures. I’m definitely looking forward to reading her backlist.

Jenny Lawson – Jenny Lawson’s books fall into the memoir category, but I love her. I love that she’s able to write about mental health in a humourous way. I also like that I know her books will make me laugh, which is a great when you need a pick me up.

Who is your favourite female character of all time?

I want to list off a half dozen characters, but I’ll be good and stick with one favourite. Stevie Bell from Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson is one of my favourite female characters. I think she’s very memorable and brilliant. I love her detective-solving skills, and I love everything about her time at Ellingham Academy.

Who is your favourite male character in a book?

Once again, I’d love to list a half dozen characters, but I’ll stick with one favourite. Athur Dent from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams is one of my favourite male characters. I love that he’s so bewildered about his intergalactic hitchhiking adventure and that all he really wants is a proper cup of tea.

What is your favourite mythical world?

I don’t read a bunch of fantasy, and I prefer urban fantasy settings. I like the idea of the magical existing in the mundane world and all of these things secretly happening around us. If I think about it too hard, I get a bit creeped out by the idea, but in general, I think the idea of a secret magical world existing in normal society is kind of fun.

What book has your favourite cover?

I don’t know if this is my favourite cover, but I love the covers of the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. I like all of the little details on the cover and the map in the background. They’re the kind of covers that I like looking at once I finish the book because of all of the little details that tie into the story.

What is your favourite book-to-movie adaptation?

I’m really bad at watching movies and tv in general, so I’m very behind on watching book-to-screen adaptions. I did quite enjoy the film adaption of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli though.

If you could make any book into a movie, what would it be?

This is a hard question because I’m so bad at watching movies. I do think it would be nice if more romance novels were adapted into movies though.

What was your favourite childhood book?

When I was little, I was mildly obsessed with Pickle Things by Marc Brown. I don’t remember much about this book other than it rhymed and it was full of pickle things.

Fantasy or sci-fi? (Or neither?)

I’m not a huge fan of either, but I prefer fantasy over sci-fi because I love middle-grade fantasy.
