Hello everyone!

Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme created by Bionic Bookworm, and it’s now hosted by Meeghan Reads. If you’re interested in participating, check out their wonderful blog to get the details and the prompts for each week!

This week’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is Dramatic Bookworm Problems! This was a fun topic to write about because I can think of a lot of problems that only bookworms will understand!

Too Many Books, Not Enough Time – The biggest dramatic bookworm problem that I have is too many books, not enough time. There are so many books that I want to read because they all sound absolutely excellent. Unfortunately, there are not enough hours in a day for me to read all of these books. This tends to leave me slightly overwhelmed because how am I supposed to choose what to read next?

Sequels Being Pushed Back – Cliffhangers are bad, but I think waiting years and years for a sequel might be worse. When I was in grade 6 I read Inkheart and Inkspell and I fell in love with them. I knew there was a third book coming out and I wanted to get my hands on it right away. Every time I went to the bookstore, I would look for the next book. Unfortunately, Inkdeath didn’t come out until I was in grade 10 and I still haven’t read it. I don’t want to say that this experience influenced my strained relationship with series that I have today, but…

Cliffhangers – Cliffhangers are the absolute worst. I hate it when I’m super into a book, the end is approaching, and then it ends with far too many unanswered questions. It’s even worse when I realize that I have to wait months and months for the nest book to be released. How am I supposed to go on with this much uncertainty? How am I supposed to sleep at night not knowing if the characters are going to be okay?

Mid-Series Cover Changes – I understand that artistic inspiration can strike at any time, but it kind of bugs me when the artwork for a series changes partway through. I like it when things match and when the artwork changes partway through a series, it leads to a lot of difficult questions. Do I repurchase the first few books in the series? Do I abandon the series? What do I do and more importantly, why am I in this situation?

Series Not Matching – This is tied to my previous point. I like it when things match, so when things don’t match, it causes issues. For example, when some books are hardcover, and some are paperback. Or when the books are different heights for no apparent reason. Overall, this doesn’t do anything to alter the content of the books, but it still bugs me.

  1. Ah all of these are so frustrating! The biggest one for me, though is Too Many Books, Not Enough Time!! I have so many books on my Kindle that I’ve never read and so many ARCs, and so many on my TBR….just TOO MANY BOOKS!!

  2. I didn’t think about those mid-series cover changes and books not matching! That definitely bugs me too. My Mediator series from Meg Cabot has one book that looks totally different from the rest and it drives me bananas.

  3. ughhh I feel your pain when it comes to book cover changes – like why???? and cliff hangers are the WORST especially when u have to wait that long – pain!! Great list 🙂

  4. I hate cliffhangers too. I love series but far prefer it when the book ends with a particular part of the story resolved. I’ve read a couple of really dramatic cliffhangers recently and they’ve irritated me rather than making me want to read the next book.
