This week’s Top 5 Tuesday topic is Favourite Book Quotes! I have a confession to make, I’m not very good at keeping track of book quotes. I have a difficult enough time remembering all of the characters in a book, so keeping track of quotes is almost out of the question. What I did for this topic is I looked up some romance novels that I loved on Goodreads and scrolled through the quotes and picked out some that I quite enjoyed.
I have a theory. Hating someone feels disturbingly similar to being in love with them. (The Hating Game by Sally Thorne)
The Hating Game is one of my favourite romance novels, so of course I looked up quotes from this book for this week’s topic. Even though I’ve been rethinking the phrase “enemies-to-lovers” lately, it’s still one of my favourite tropes and this quote is one of my favourites.
Carry yourself with the confidence of a mediocre white man (The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood)
I love everything about this quote, and I need it plastered on everything so I remember it. It is a brilliant line and I want it on a coffee mug that I keep on my desk at work, even though that would probably get me into some sort of trouble.
The best cure for anything was candles and a bath (The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling)
I finished my reread of The Ex Hex yesterday and I think it’s going to become a seasonal comfort read for me. This book has a lot of brilliant quotes in it, but I like this one because it is so utterly relatable.
Perhaps this is not a question of staying out of trouble, Your Grace. Perhaps this is about deciding on which side of history you want to be. (Bringing Down the Duke by Evie Dunmore)
Bringing Down the Duke was a fun historical romance novel and it also had some good lines. I like this line because I think it will always be relevant.
I was coming out here to ask why you were acting so weird, but I see I need to keep things present tense (In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren)
This quote just feels very relatable. Sometimes when you start acting weird, it takes a while to get the weird out of your system.
