Thank you to The Write Reads and to the author for providing me with a copy of this book for this blog tour. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

While I enjoyed the concept behind this book, unfortunately, it just didn’t work for me. The Urban Boys: The Discovery of the Five Senses follows five boys who have been gifted a strengthen sense and are now tasked with protecting their town and more broadly, saving mankind from evil. Unfortunately, I found the writing to be a bit choppy and there were a few plot holes that I couldn’t look past.

I liked the setting of this book. I enjoyed the feeling of a small town that was isolated and away from everything. I also enjoyed the sense of community that the town had. I also thought that the world building was neat.

One thing I struggled with was the characters. There were a lot of them to keep track of, and I felt like I wasn’t able to get to know any of them. I think I would have enjoyed this book a bit more if I could have gotten to know the characters better.

I enjoyed the action scenes in this book, I thought they brought some excitement, but I did find the pacing to be a bit all over the place. I sometimes had a difficult time keeping track of how much time had passed between scenes. I do think that this action packed story would be fun as a graphic novel.

I really liked the idea behind this book. I thought the idea of the five senses and the five boys working together was neat, but unfortunately the book needed just a bit more and it fell flat for me.
