Hello Everyone!
Now that the BBNYA Spotlight Tours are over, I’m trying to get back to my normal posting schedule. Since it’s Thursday, that means it’s time for a book tag! I was tagged to do the 12 Days of Christmas Tag by Danni at ForBooksSake. I’m not tagging anyone specific in this, so if you’re looking for a Christmas tag, consider yourself tagged!
ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.
The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?
I think my favourite standalone is You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle. I just love the characters in this book so much and the story is also very cute.
ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.
Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?
Right now, Lena Martin and Aaron Blackford from The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas are my OTP. I read this book earlier this year and I absolutely loved it.
ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.
In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?
My favourite trilogy is the Truly Devious trilogy by Maureen Johnson. I love the mystery, the characters, and the setting of this book. Despite this being my favourite trilogy, I still haven’t read the spin-off standalone novels yet, whoops.
ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.
Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?
I think my favourite series is the Poirot series by Agatha Christie. I’ve been working my way through all of the Poirot books and I’m really enjoying them.
ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.
One ring to rule them all! Who is your favourite Villain/Antagonist?
I enjoyed the Faceless Man from the River of London series by Ben Aaronovitch. My memory is kind of awful, but I enjoyed reading about Peter and Nightingale hunting him down.
ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.
Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?
I’m not a big fantasy reader and a lot of the fantasy that I do read doesn’t have extensive world-building. I will say though that the Department of Supernatural Affairs from Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston is very cool.
ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.
Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?
I really enjoyed the guardians in The Midnight Guardians by Ross Montgomery. I enjoyed their banter and their mission to save the world.
ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.
Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?
I really enjoyed the food descriptions in Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manasala. I wanted to order so much food while I was reading it because everything sounded delicious.
ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.
Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?
I think my favourite leading lady of the year is Vivienne Jones from The Ex Hex by Erin Sterling. This book was so much fun to read and I thought she was a badass curse breaker.
ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.
How about your favourite leading lad?
I think my favourite leading lad of the year is Jamie from The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. There’s just something about a prickly grumpy character that I love.
ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.
What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)
The first book that came to mind for this question was Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I read this book a few years ago, but I enjoyed the interview format of the book.
ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.
Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?
This is a very difficult question to answer, but I think my favourite read of the year is The Spanish Love Deception by Elena Armas.
