What are your thoughts on “happily ever after” endings?

I am an absolute sucker for happily ever afters. One of the reasons why I enjoy romance novels so much is because they always have a happily ever after. The way that I see it is, the world is terrible right now and I need all of the happily ever afters I can get. Sure, it might not be realistic, but reading is a way to escape reality.
