Top 5 Graphic Novels on my TBR

For this week’s freebie week I decided I wanted to talk about some of the graphic novels on my TBR. I feel like I’m always saying that I want to read more graphic novels and there are so many that catch my eye, but I haven’t read any of them yet. Here are some of the ones that I’m most interested in.

Sheets by Brenna Thummler

I don’t know much about this graphic novel, but I love the cover. Based on the blurb, it looks like this is about a 13-year-old girl and a young ghost and that it takes place at a laundromat. From the bits I’ve seen online, I also love the style of the art in this book. I’ve had my eye on this book for so long that I might buy myself a copy for my birthday next month.

The Sad Ghost Club by Lize Meddings

This book usually comes up as a suggestion when I look up Sheets and I am in love with the ghost on the cover. This graphic novel deals with mental health and I think a graphic novel is a great format for stories about mental health. Allie Brosh’s Adventures in Depression had stuck with me for over a decade and I would love to read another graphic novel like that.

Garlic and the Vampire by Bree Paulsen

This sounds so cute and wholesome! This graphic novel is about a village of vegetables being threatened by the vampire who moves into the nearby castle. They send Garlic, who is full of self-doubt, to confront the vampire to save the village. Everything about this sounds cozy and cute and I need it in my life.

The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O’Neill

This is one of those graphic novels that I’ve seen everywhere and it looks so cute. I don’t know much about this one but I don’t think you can go wrong with tea and dragons. I also love how bright and colourful the cover of this one is and I’m curious to see if the inside is just as colourful.

Ducks: Two Years in the Oil Sands by Kate Beaton

This graphic memoir won Canada Reads this year. I don’t usually follow Canada Reads or any other literary awards, but this one caught my eye because it’s the first graphic novel to win Canada Reads. This memoir follows the author as she goes from the east coast to spend two years in Alberta working in the oil sands. The subject matter of this memoir sounds interesting to me and I’m looking forward to snagging it from my brother’s collection to read soon.
