Hello Everyone!
I’m Ashlee, I’m 27 years old, I live in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, and I’m easily distracted by books. I like to say that I’m a full-time bookworm, but I work as a legal assistant at a Family Law Firm during the day. I have an honours degree from the University of Waterloo, where I majored in History and Business and minored in Political Science. I have a black and white cat named Scamper and two step-cats named Peaches and Torpedo. If you want to find me across social media, check out the “where to find me” page for all of my links!
When I launched my Bookstagram account in December 2016, my goal was to make a few bookish friends and add a few titles to my TBR. Now here I am, over four years later, and I’m shocked with how far I’ve come, how many friends I’ve made, and how many opportunities this community has given to me. I love being part of this community. I love interacting with other bloggers and making new friends. I also love interacting with and discovering new authors, even if that means my TBR is becoming a safety hazard. If you have any questions about book blogging, or if you want to become friends, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me! I love book bloggers and this community, and I’m thankful for this community every day.
As far as books go, I love them. My favourite genres are romance (especially romantic comedies or books with illustrated covers), contemporary (YA and adult), and historical fiction (especially stories that take place around WWII). I like mysteries, as long as they aren’t too gory or creepy (think Agatha Christie or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle). As far as fantasy goes, lately, I’ve been falling in love with middle-grade fantasy, but I also enjoy urban fantasy, and I’m willing to give other subgenres a try. I enjoy the occasional sci-fi, but I’m not a huge fan of dystopian universes. I tend to struggle with classics, and I avoid horror and thrillers because I’m a scaredy-cat.
As far as non-bookish things go, I have a few interests. I love wine, and I’m slowly starting to learn more about it and how different all the varietals are. When the weather is nice, I enjoy gardening, even though I’m a professional house plant killer. I like cooking and baking, and in theory, I love entertaining even though groups of people tend to make me anxious. I love tea, and I especially love Earl Grey or a fruity green tea. As far as music goes, I grew up on country music, and it’s still my favourite genre, but I had a pretty solid pop-punk phase, and I have fond memories of Warped Tour. As far as television goes, I don’t want it very often, but my favourite shows are Bones, The West Wing, and Jeopardy.
If you’re still reading, congratulations for putting up with my rambling for this long. One last thing that I want to talk about is the inspiration behind my blog name. Books Are 42 I a Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy reference. In the book, 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything, and in my opinion, books are the answer to life, the universe, and everything.
